Massive data breach compromises information of approximately 1.8 million NY customers
 
New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) and Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) acknowledged unauthorized access to the company’s databases by a subcontractor's employee. The compromised information included Social Security numbers, dates of birth and, for some customers, bank account numbers. NYSEG has 878,000 electricity customers and 261,000 natural gas customers, and Rochester Gas and Electric has 367,000 electricity customers and 303,000 natural gas customers.
